Brief Introductione

316 stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel with the addition of the key element molybdenum. This addition significantly improves its chemical stability, particularly its corrosion resistance in chloride-containing environments. Typical applications include marine and coastal environments: marine equipment, desalination plant pipelines, coastal railings, yacht fittings, and offshore platform components. It is also used in high-end watch cases, jewelry, professional diving equipment, and high-end coastal building facades and decorations (mirror panels).

316 stainless steel represents a classic example of "targeted reinforcement" in materials science.
