Grade 316L is very similar to 316 stainless steel. It is still considered a molybdenum-containing grade and has properties that make it highly resistant to corrosion degradation. Grade 316L stainless differs from 316 in that it has a lower carbon content. The reduced carbon content in this stainless steel makes this grade immune to sensitization or grain boundary carbide precipitation.
